A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Heather Marchioni on Thursday, 16th March  in the Waihinga Centre at 2 pm.  Many thanks to Carol Hawkins for providing the information for the obituary in last month’s Star.

DURING JANUARY, the Wellington Free Ambulance service transported 2,996 people to hospitals in the Wellington – Wairarapa area. In 1,432 calls people were treated in their own places. Plus 3,139 patients were transferred between hospitals. All these at no charge; we have the only free ambulance service in New Zealand.

THERE WERE NO Auckland players in in the All Black teams in the four rugby tests between New Zealand and South Africa in the 1965 series. The series was won by New Zealand three games to one.

THE FIRST measles case was confirmed in New Zealand since the 2019 outbreak . Measles is highly contagious and very serious. The last outbreak had 700 hospitalised. Most were children. The disease was then exported from here to Sāmoa, where it killed more than 70 people, again, mostly children.

ON AVERAGE we breath just over 20,000 times a week – about 15 times a minute.
