Fire Brigade
Thanks to everyone in the community for being extra careful this winter as the number of emergency call outs has been well below the average for August and September (to date). The brigade responded to 3 medical assist calls including a motor vehicle accident. One chimney fire required little intervention by the Brigade. Homeowners are encouraged to call 111 if a chimney fire is suspected rather than delay in hopes it will burn itself out.
There were two alarm activations which proved to be system malfunctions. One bon fire was extinguished by the owner. A shed and vegetation fire out of town required responses from Carterton and Featherson and resources from rural fire brigades in Tora and Lake Ferry. Another call to rescue a cat was turned back as it escaped before help arrived.
A Reminder: Now that you have changed your clocks, change those smoke alarm batteries. Smoke alarms save lives!
