Friendship Club

When the previous Friendship Club committee retired – after 25 years serving homemade soup with slice, tea and coffee – it was doubted if the club had a future. The retiring committee members were all in their 80s and 90s and there were health issues.
A meeting was called where it was agreed there was a need for those living alone and also those who had partners be able to share a lunch in pleasant company on a regular basis.
John Lace was the first to put his hand up and offer to be convenor. Anne Egerton (an angel in disguise) was next followed by Carol Southee. Carol is computer savvy and organised all the arrangements for the club.
Carol has now sold her home in Martinborough and is building a new home in Wanganui so as to be near her family. To say that the club will be without an anchor is putting it mildly as she has been such a key figure in the club . She will be a huge loss.
The new committee have a different format having a pot luck lunch every other month with a speaker, as usual in the Presbyterian Church Hall. On the alternative months there will be dining out at various venues. The meeting day will continue to be the last Monday of each month with members being reminded by the phoning team.
The club is hoping there will be a person who will join the committee and help with arranging the functioning of this popular group. Mostly long term residents come however we welcome new residents a to be part of the club and so come and meet their neighbours.
