From the mayor
The district is still reeling after the death of brothers Sam and Angus Donald in a horrible car accident on Western Lake Road. So many people knew the boys either through their grandparents John and Trish Donald who farm on Te Muna Road or their parents David and Tracie who farm at Tauherinikau. The huge attendance at the boys’ funeral was testament not only to their popularity but to the respect held for their very community minded family.
The Donald’s strength as a family has to be admired. It seemed that they were supporting others when it should have been the other way around.
South Wairarapa has lost two young men who were shaping up to be great citizens like their parents and grandparents. They had the world in front of them. Now we can only reflect on their achievements, attributes and wonder what might have been.
It’s hard to imagine how you rise up from such a tragedy. I’m sure however that our community will offer all the support it can to the Donald family as they try to rebuild their shattered lives.
