GOLF CLUB NEWS
There have been a couple of milestones reached at the club during the month; first one being the 60th wedding anniversary of Bill and Shirley Rattray. They received greeting cards from the Queen, the Prime Minister and the Governor General among others; the club also extends their best wishes. Another milestone was the birthday of our Secretary Manager Sue Berger.
The Grumpy’s are still keeping their numbers up. Ray Lind has been showing outstanding form of late and they’re already talking about where the next meal will be.
The 9 hole ladies numbers are great thanks mainly to the “bring a friend” day which was held recently.
Now that pennants have started I noticed the other week the 18 hole ladies turning up for some valuable golf sessions with Shaun Hewitt. Other than that the results are always on time which makes life easier all round.
Thursday club continues to thrive, even on the most excruciatingly-hot days. 50 ventured out on Waitangi Day with no moans or groans; just good old fashioned golf as it should be played. Thanks to Doug and Ali for their valuable support.
At long last the club is having a disk draw for competitions on Saturdays and I do believe it is working and numbers are on the up.
During the month the club held its annual Pro-Am which proved to be a most successful and enjoyable day due largely to the many sponsors. Josh Hawkins, team Martinborough Transport won on the day and their pro, Josh Carmichael carded a 63 off the stick to miss the course record by two shots which is held by Lance Phelps.
The Wairarapa Shoot out final comprising five clubs was also held during the month and the winner was popular club member Walter Barber. Another club member Bill Crook took out second place and Brian Field from Carterton was third. It was a great day and there was some great golf played.
The season has started off with a hiss and a roar so hopefully it will be a good and fruitful year for the club.
St John Charity Golf tournament is earmarked for Friday, 4 April; contact Terry Blacktop for details.
