Great Tora Cook Off

June 12, 2014 June 2014 No Comments

Forget about all those phoney TV cooking shows, the real Kiwi Cooking Show will be here live to watch and taste on Saturday July 5th. And open to all – you can be part of if you fancy your cooking skills.

Last year’s inaugural event was such a success that the good folk of Tora decided to make it an annual event and now the year has rolled around. Those who attended last year are sure to be there to enjoy it again. For those who didn’t here is your chance to enjoy the experience.

The basic rule for the contest is that the main ingredients of the entries must be caught, killed or grown in and around the Tora – Tuturumuri region. The contest is divided into categories: Wild Game, Locally farmed meat, Home grown produce, Seafood, Desert and Kids (under 14). There are worth while prizes for each category.

The best part of all is that the winners are selected by those attending the event. Samples the entries can be enjoyed with votes then cast for the preferred entry in each or any category. The public are the judges.
Last year there were sixty entries with the event organisers expecting an even greater number this year. So if you would like to sample a really superb wild venison casserole, rabbit pie, ‘real’ whitebait fritter or even smoked eel mornay, chances are that you may be just able to do that. See you there.
