Hi from Martinborough Plunket,

How has your summer been so far? Today while my small assistant is home sick from school I’ve simmered on the stove a bucket load of beautiful juicy dark red plums given to me by a friend. It really feels like summer is here when I get to do that, it’ll be a favorite with our breakfast cereals for the next few months!.

This summer seems to have been late coming but we’re not complaining, Martinborough is very fortunate to have a fantastic public pool for everyone to enjoy when the temperatures get up, the new paint work and sun shade look very smart.

Our Plunket rooms have had a working bee team swoop in and spruce up the gardens, and sort through a huge amount of goods donated in the last 2 months for our 2014 Garage Sale. Thanks to the cheery team on our committee, and those wonderful hubby’s who lent their hands to the tough tree trimming and washing the building on the outside.. without your voluntary help we couldn’t get those jobs done without you!

A date to mark on your calendar if you have a small person in tow, on Friday March 14th, we’re having our Teddy Bears Picnic at the Plunket Rooms, we’ll have refreshments and morning tea, so come along, we’d love to see you!.

Lastly on a very excited note, you may have heard about the House built by Wairarapa UCOL pre-trade construction students under the supervision of their tutors last year. It was the fifth charity house build and on November 2nd sold by auction attracting a top bid of $150,000.

The project was run in conjunction with the Upper Hutt-based Dugdale Charitable Trust and Masterton Mitre 10 Mega, which provides the building material.  A profit of $30,000 was split between Martinborough Plunket and Life Flight Trust.

Martinborough Committee have agreed to put these funds towards the Wairarapa car seat rental scheme.. On the day, Martinborough Plunket also auctioned off some other lots including local homestays, wine tastings and dinners out. A Picton getaway on the Bluebridge Ferry with accompanying Subway meal voucher. Also a lovely BBQ and gorgeous kwila outdoor table setting from Mitre10 Martinborough. Thanks to all the families and companies that helped us out by donating these wonderful auction items – you are so kind and really made it a fantastic auction to be part of.
