Inner Wheel club South Wairarapa

June 8, 2020 June 2020 No Comments

Like members of other service clubs, Inner Wheel prides itself in its productivity to benefit our communities. Because Covid 19 has disrupted us all this month I will give an overview of activities carried out in 2020 rather than solely in May. After all there is only so much one can write about knitting.

This year has seen us catering for the Rotarians at the Martinborough Fair, collecting, washing, sorting and distributing bras here and overseas, and knitting for babies in Australia who have been affected by the huge fires. Some of us are amazing cooks, unlike me whose scones were not required this year. No I’m not miffed as I have had a longstanding cough and coughs are definitely not PC, especially at the moment!

Doreen Badger’s team did a great job as usual so special thanks go to her, Kathleen Rushworth and Liz Poynter for their early shopping and sandwich making, and much more. Thanks also to the rest of the team for their contributions of product, time and donations. Alma Parr did invaluable work arranging for four boxes of lovely second hand, freshly washed bras to be sent to the Solomons, as well as delivering one box each to Dress for Success and Whai Ora.

Recently we have been focussed on knitting. For me this has not been without its trials. Even though I have only been knitting peggy squares, I am finding the squares becoming smaller and tending towards the rectangular.

As you can see, it’s messy. One dropped stitch is held up by a safety pin, and that was the only one I found. More to the point, did you know that providing wool for knitting has become an essential service? If you are running out of wool the Napier shop Skeinz (skeinz.com) is open online for non-contact purchases delivered to your door? Delivery cost is around $5.50.

Finally, we must all keep safe, keep well, and for those who want to, keep knitting.
