Installation of Deacon in Charge at St Andrew’s

March 10, 2021 March 2021 No Comments

On a glorious Tuesday evening on 2 February Rev Peter Hull was installed as Deacon in Charge at St Andrew’s Anglican Church. It was an evening of pageantry, worship, ceremony, blessing and words of welcome. Bishop Justin Duckworth and Archdeacon Peter Watson presided. Priests from the local Wairarapa area supported.

Peter was welcomed by the mayor Alex Beijen, Martinborough Community Board chairperson Mel Maynard and school principals Gina Smith from Featherston School and Tana Klaricich from South Featherston School (where Peter Hull had been deputy principal prior to commencing his theological training). Local parishioners from the South Wairarapa Parish presented Peter with symbols representing the life and ministry of the church. We look forward to Peter’s ministry amongst us.

Pete and his family have felt blessed coming back to a community that is so supportive. Pete says that both churches, Martinborough and Featherston, have welcomed the family back into the community and been incredibly warm and friendly. This has made the transition from Auckland feel more smooth.

As well as being Deacon in charge of the South Wairarapa Parish, Pete also works for the Wairarapa Whanau Trust. A large part of his role for the trust is being involved with local youth, a role that Pete really enjoys. Being in the youth scene is familiar for Pete as he was very involved in the Featherston Youth Group for several years prior to study in Auckland.

A change for Pete however, will be heading into Kuranui College to work with some young people. Pete says that one of the great things about this is that he will know many of the students from when he taught at South Featherston School.

Peter will lead services on the first Sunday of each month at St Andrew’s at 10am.

Every third Sunday we support and attend the St John’s service at Fox St. Featherston, also lead by Peter. There is a Traditional Anglican Service lead by Archdeacon May Croft on each fourth Sunday of the month.

The church has commenced an interesting and challenging Lenten Studies series “Rebuilding the Ruins” on Wednesday evenings in the hall at 7pm and a day study on Mondays. We warmly welcome you all to attend services, and Lenten studies.
