KOKOMAI FESTIVAL EVENTS IN MARTINBOROUGH

The programme will bring national and international acts to the region and showcase the talented people within the Wairarapa. Many of these will be held in Martinborough including:

REVOLUTION! WHEELS OF CHANGE
Martinborough photographer Marcus Adams is excited about his outdoor photography exhibition during the Festival. The Pain & Kershaw Ltd sponsored exhibition, Revolution! Wheels Of Change in SE Asia, will debut in the Martinborough Town Square for the length of Kokomai (October 18-27th). It will document how the wheel has shaped social and economic outcomes in South East Asia.

GEOFF CULVERWELL
Jazz in Martinborough presents Geoff Culverwell, one of New Zealand’s premier horn players brings us a group of distinguished musicians featuring pianist Michal Martyniuk. Michal’s dynamic style has seen him in demand throughout Europe and recently Australasia. This is jazz musicianship at its best.
Date: Friday, October 18, 2013. Time: 7.00pm for 7.45pm start. Cost: Adult $40. Venue: The Village Café, Kitchener Street, Martinborough.

FILM FESTIVAL
Circus Cinema in Martinborough has an outstanding line up of film events available during Kokomai. Best Offer, Rush, Diana, and Beyond the Edge will be showing between the 18th and 27th October and screening times will be available closer to the time.

PARTY WITH THE AUNTIES
Join the celebration with talented performers, Jamie McCaskill, Matariki Whatarau and Kura Forrester as they Party with the Aunties. Hilarity ensues as the whole whanau reunites for Uncle Angus’ 50th birthday party. Family have come from all over to celebrate, including Uncle Shane all the way from Perth and Te Manawa who has brought his girlfriend Sia to meet the family for the first time. This absorbing, uproariously funny and highly entertaining 80 minutes of theatre

BLOGGERS TO BOOKS:
Jared Gulian’s Moon Over Martinborough and Johanna Knox’s A Forager’s Treasury were published in 2013 to enthusiastic acclaim. Moon Over Martinborough is Jared’s riveting and often moving account of how he went from being an American city boy to a Wairarapa olive farmer.
A Forager’s Treasury: a New Zealand guide to finding and using wild plants explores ways to cook and craft with local wild plants, use them to treat ailments, and more.
Jared and Johanna will read from their work and candidly discuss their respective publishing journeys from bloggers to best-selling authors – revealing the challenges and the thrills.

ART WORKSHOP
Learn about abstraction through art history, how and in what ways it arose. Learn how to use abstraction and a variety of oil painting techniques to express your own ideas about a subject in this two day workshop. Tutor Ann Brodie creates her own work and teaches in a beautiful studio set between an olive grove and vineyard in Martinborough.
