Library busier than ever

June 12, 2014 June 2014 No Comments

Library-News-It has a been just over a year since we moved into the Village Library site on the 6th of May 2013.  However it still feels like yesterday and we are still making small adjustments, but I suspect that will be an on-going process.  I am still up to my usual trick of trying to squeeze as many books in as possible.

The interior design and garden design section now has a lot of beautiful big new books.    The hunting section has grown to encompass a whole shelf to itself with quite a few recent new additions.  If you are ready for a bit of romance in your life, the shelves are bursting with new books and there is a handy leaflet guide for  books similar to ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

We are a bit overwhelmed with processing new books at the moment as the quarterly bookseller has visited with his bus full of books.  It is wonderful to be able to buy actual books rather than order by catalogue, consequently I always return to the library with boxes and boxes of books.  Popular books flying off the shelves at the moment are ‘The luminaries’, ‘The goldfinch’, a guide to constructing bookshelves called ‘Bookshelf’, ‘Concealed in death’ by J D Robb, all the C J Box ‘Joe Pickett’ books, ‘Heartland’ by Jenny Patrick and of course all the ‘Minecraft’ books.

Book Babies preschool session has gone from strength to strength, no doubt due to the talents of Janet whom all the children adore.  Our numbers have more than doubled and now everyone squeezes into our small but perfectly formed children’s space and has lots of fun hearing stories, bouncing about and pretending to  be sleeping bunnies.
There is something wonderful about little ones who love coming to the library and don’t like to leave.  We do have something for the school age children as well and now we are definitely into winter, we can look forward to the next Reading Programme in July.  It is centred around the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, so a definite sporting theme.  Registration opens in the next few weeks.
Please check out Martinborough Library Facebook site and our catalogue https://ent.kotui.org.nz/.  Remember to use your PIN number to reserve and renew books.  If you don’t have one then please ask a Librarian.

Speaking of which you will be pleased to know that Richmel and Jenny are now  permanent staff in the afternoon although we won’t see Jenny for a few months until Archie is 4 months old.  A big welcome to Archie – our new library baby and a welcome also to Melody Haira – our new relief staff member and a fluent Te Reo speaker.   Look forward to seeing you in the library soon.
