Our spirits are rising as the sunny days arrive and the temperature goes up. We have finished our Winter children’s reading programme with a party and impromptu dance outside in the courtyard. Thank goodness not many adults were around to see the Librarian’s Dance of Silliness but the children had a good laugh.
So with the last Winter event now over, we can get started on Spring. There are lots of beautiful and informative gardening books and magazines ready and waiting here. Nature seems to think it is time to procreate so if you want to know how to home rear pigs, chickens, Llamas or even quails we can find the information you need while the time is right.

During the winter months I have been stocking up the new Nordic Noir fiction. The Scandinavian authors certainly do murder and suspense very well. Many of them have also been translated quite well into film and TV series (of which we have quite a few), such as The Killing, Borgen and The Bridge.

The trend towards Outback fiction is still strong and there are a number of new authors now available. There is a list of Australian Women outback authors and one of Nordic Noir authors available at the desk. Please remember to check out our Facebook page.

Richmel has put up a lovely photo of our new Children’s Librarian (Kerchak) and me. There is a prize up for grabs for the best caption for the photo. If you have not ‘Liked’ our Facebook page yet, then please do so and remember to let us know so you can claim your free DVD hire for your “Like”. We now have over 600 DVDs for hire with more arriving each day.

We encourage everyone to participate in our library community and our volunteers are wonderful. We have volunteers of every age and some of our teenagers are doing their community service for Duke of Edinburgh with us. Another teenager who is very involved with the library is Ava Rickey. A budding author, Ava is writing some teen book reviews to inspire readers and with luck you will see them in this month’s Star. As usual there is a lot happening in the library. Just because it is fine and sunny outside please don’t forget we are here.

Itch
Itch is an amazingly mind-blowing book by Simon Mayo, with interesting and captivating characters, an original story base, and that “WOW” factor. The main character is a young boy called Itchingham Lofte who has a immense interest in explosives and chemicals, that almost always get him into trouble. This friendship and courage filled book (with a little bit of laughter) is simply fabulous. This exotic book will have you literally itching to read more.

City of OneThousand Dolls
The city of one thousand dolls is a one of a kind book that everyone has to read. With mystery, adventure, and love all in one amazing book, it’s pretty unbelievable. The place and time of this book somehow connects to history, but it still has a certain fantasy about it. Personally this book is a complete and utter must-read, and if you read it, I guarantee you will think the same!
