What a Busy Bee month September has been.  Unfortunately no actual buzzy bees but we have had a big display for BEE awareness month with honey, a few tools of the bee trade, flowers and of course, books on bee keeping and bee story books as well.  Book babies have had a bee focussed session and we have BEEn a bit mad as usual.  Check out Facebook for the photos.

Now from yellow to pink.  On Wednesday 21st October we will be turning pink for a day and will be raising money for New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.   No doubt we will make some nice goodies to eat (as we always like something nice to nibble on during the day) and will have some spot prizes too.

More spot prizes are on offer as well as books and DVD hire vouchers in our Book Review Competition.  Initially begun for school children, we have extended it to adults as well.  Competition forms are in the library, it is free to enter and closes on Sunday 11th October.   We are hoping, as it is school holidays now, that this will keep the children reading and writing when it rains too hard to go outside.  Besides which we have way too many books in the children’s section at the moment so please come in and take lots home.

Of course our next school holidays will be Christmas (what a frightening thought) and our Summer Reading Programme will be on again.  This time we are taking to the air so just imagine what wonders Janet will be dreaming up for that!

Back to the adults, on the 14th October we will find out which book is the new Man Booker prize winner.  We are reading our way through the short list and have prepared a short review on each.  Sometimes the books can be a bit heavy going but this time there are some very enjoyable ones.
A huge job we are working our way through over the next few weeks is sorting out the books in storage and after many customer requests am bringing back into the library the older NZ biography and history books.  We are cleaning them up and putting new covers on them but the great stories are the same.
The lovely men of the Mens Shed are creating some shelves for the smaller corners so we can fit some of the books in.  So this time I have to thank not just our great volunteers who help to keep us running so well but the men from the Mens Shed too!
