Martinborough Community Board
Community Board members wish everyone a very Happy New Year and a safe 2014.
After our December meeting it was decided to take a walk around some of the assets we have in Martinborough, first on the list was the Swimming Baths. What a lot of work has gone into these over the last 12 months, we have lovely shade cloth which protects the smaller pool and the large seating area, the grounds are lovely and the murals on the wall paint a great picture of our town.
The best news is the new water slide for the main pool. This was installed over the weekend of the 25th January and is proving to be a great attraction for parents and children alike. The funds for this work were approved by the Community Board and come out of the Pain Estate bequeath.
Next we wandered through Considine and Centennial Parks, the walkway from Kitchener Street, through to Dublin Street is lined with native trees and shrubs . If you haven’t had a chance to walk through please do so as it makes a pleasant change and is the start of one of mapped walks around town.
The other assets looked at were Cecily Martin Park between Sackville and Suez Sts. The Rugby grounds and last but by no means least, the playground. We are so fortunate to have these outdoor areas and I would recommend using these over the summer months, what about a family picnic by the playground, the kids would love this.
Recently there was a report on graffiti in our towns. It was very pleasing to see that Martinborough only had 39 incidents compared to Featherston with 360 and Greytown with 12. If you notice graffiti around the district, please contact any Community Board Member or go direct to the Council as the sooner this is cleaned up the tidier we will look.
At the moment we are discussing our vision and plans for the next 3 years, this is a very exciting time as there are a number of projects on the go – the redevelopment of the Town Hall and surrounding area being one of these. If you have any thoughts or suggestions of what might be included please contact any one of us, we would love to hear from you. It is your District – please have your say that way you might get what you would like, rather than what we would like…
