MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB

November 11, 2013 December 2013, Regular Features, Sports No Comments

The course has stood up very well during the month to the severe wind with very little damage but a major clean-up. Some courses in other areas have not been so lucky.

October has been a busy month for the club which commenced on the 5th with the Men’s Open. The new format of either playing 72 or 36 holes attracted a good field and the tournament proved to be a resounding success. The 36 hole Wairarapa Mixed Foursomes incorporating AB Martin Cup was held a week later and the winners were George Kirk and daughter Philippa. Murray Halberg (Eagles Day) was held on Saturday the 19th and attracted several Eagles from around the Wellington area.

The Grumpy’s numbers have remained static and they really are a bunch of happy guys even playing on the worst days, weather-wise. Terry does a great job organizing their weekly competitions and the jug count just keeps rising.
The 9 and 18 hole women have played and completed their championship finals. In one division I know a certain person getting a hole in one, then losing her match on the 37th hole which deserves the N.A.G.A Shield forever. Better luck next year, Lyle.

The 9 hole women are also promoting a “Bring a Friend” day on the 13th November which will be a fun-style Ambrose tournament so for interested persons, please contact Honor Clark.

Thursday club have had some amazing turn outs and they normally have luck with the weather too.

The club is also fortunate to have Gary McDowall (Pukemanu Tavern) as sponsor for Sunday’s club day on the sixth hole.

Good Golfing & Good Luck – Kevin Campbell
