Martinborough Golf Club Report

March 15, 2023 March 2023, Sports No Comments

It is incredible to see the course so green at this time of year – you can almost see the grass growing in front of your eyes!

After the very successful Pro Am at the end of January the interclub boys were straight into their matches.  Both Division 3 and Division 10 have had 3 games with both teams having 2 wins and 1 loss.

Ladies interclub also started at the end of January with the Silvers having a number of close matches as have the Combo team.

Club Opening Day had a good turnout and the competition was Mystery Partner 4BBB with no one knowing who their partner was.  The winners on the day were:

Best Gross Shane Colton & Robbie Robinson, 2nd Brian Russo & Netia Morison, 3rd John Warner & Tora Boyne and 4th George Fenwick & Vern Anton.  Best Nett went to Brett Abercrombie & Michael Griffiths, 2nd Mark Mason & Honor Clark, 3rd Rosie Collins & Whitney Griffiths and 4th Lyle Griffiths & Malcolm Bridge.  Best Stableford went to Andy Morison & Sarah Monaghan, 2nd Marilyn MacKenzie & Robbie Walters, 3rd Julie Dondertman & Shayne Hammond and 4th Carol Parkinson & John Monaghan.  Nearest the pins went to Robbie Walters #6, Sarah Monaghan #8, Michael Bing #12 and Josh Moorby #16.  Twos went to Sandra Petersen, Paul McKenzie, Sarah Monaghan and Lyle Griffiths.

The Ladies had a very enjoyable opening day with 9 and 18 holers playing a fun competition followed by lunch.  The following Wednesday when competitions were due to start rain stopped play!

The Grumpies have been getting a good turnout each week and the winners have been Greg Dalton, Rick Hargreaves (twice), Bob Tosswill and Tony Taylor.  Twos have gone to Greg Dalton, Sandy Bidwill, Mike Griffiths, Brian Russo, Jason Shaw (2), Wayne Phelps, Pete Price, Seamus O’Sullivan and Tiawharangi Aranui.

Recent Thursday Club winners have been Bob Tosswill, Chris Ranish and Mike Griffiths.  Twos have gone to Lloyd Warren, Lisa-Marie Ireland, Anna Possenniskie, Pete Griffiths, Rob Smith and Jason Shaw.
