Martinborough Lions News

May 10, 2021 May 2021 No Comments

Well over one hundred Mountain Bikers, Runners and Walkers came out on a near perfect day to enjoy the Lion’s Skyline Challenge on the hills to the east of Martinborough on Saturday 24th April. The event was orientated to a family fun day this year, as well as providing a challenge for serious Mountain bikers.

Event organiser Henry Carr is very happy with the result, as are the beneficiaries this year, the Wharekaka Aged Care Community. Many thanks to all involved – especially the participants, the volunteers and the farmers who allowed access to their land for the day. There were spectacular views, particularly from the Oystershell ridge!.

Other recent activity by Martinborough Lions includes firewood working bees, supporting fundraising appeals for the Heart Foundation, Parkinson Foundation and St Johns, and the ongoing Predator Trapping operations in Palliser Bay. A big pile of freshly cut wet gum is now for sale. Thanks to Lions Tom and Di Bunny for donating their unwanted gum trees. Get in early for next years firewood supply! Phone Phillip Reid on 027 243 7183.

Martinborough Lions are keen to attract new members. Fellowship and Community Service are high on our priority list. People are welcome to come along to a couple of meetings to check us out at no cost. Anyone wanting to know more please contact Joe Howells on 027 597 2667 or Terry Blacktop on 06 306 8568
