Martinborough Lions News
President Joe Howells was disappointed to have to postpone the last meeting for his term due to the Covid level 2 alerts for Wellington and Wairarapa. Incoming President Margaret Bush was equally disappointed, having planned for a lovely handover evening at Parehua Restaurant.
The function will now take place in mid-July with Lions and partners welcomed. A National Lions officers function being hosted by Martinborough Lions, scheduled for the last weekend in June was also cancelled because of the Covid alert.
That past couple of months has seen Lions involved in firewood working bees and reading the Martinborough water meters, as well as checking the predator trap lines at Palliser Bay. A group of 12 Lions had a wonderful trip around the South Island earlier in the month, organised by Phil and Jaquee Reid. Whilst the planned excursion on the Trans Alpine was cancelled due to damage from the South Island floods, they did get to ride on the Coastal Explorer from Christchurch to Picton.
Martinborough Lions is keen to engage new members. Whilst we are a service club, with the aim of serving our community, fellowship is a very important aspect of our club. Prospective members are welcome to join us for a meeting or two at our Lions Hall in Oxford Street. We meet from 6pm on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Give Margaret Bush a call on 0274 389 490 or Terry Blacktop on 06 306 8568 if you are interested.
