MARTINBOROUGH RUGBY CLUB

March 10, 2021 March 2021 No Comments

Firstly a huge congratulations to our Colts Sevens team who travelled to Palmerston North for the Mananwatu Invitational Sevens Tournament.  They won the Colts division with a nail biting final against Freyberg Old Boys 28-24 scoring a converted try in the last seconds to secure the win.

They won 3 of the 4 pool games (vs Feilding Yellows, Whanganui Metro & Hutt Old Boys Marist) but lost to Freyberg so was great to face them again and win!  Thanks to Hatarei Brown who puts in a lot of time each summer to our Sevens.  He will be taking a Mens team to the Shannon Sevens tournament at the end of this month.

Our Premier competition kicks off on the 1 May with a 3 week Town & Country competition playing for the Lane Penn Cup.  Following that we play for the Moose Kapene Memorial Cup playing each team once before semis and finals.  The Reserve grade also kick off on the 1 May with their “Whataboutyou” competition. For all information about the draw and competition points etc go to www.waibush.co.nz

Registrations are open for anyone wanting to play this season, just go online to https://www.sporty.co.nz/martinboroughrfc/

We are also looking for someone to take charge in our kitchen for our home games, we have 6 home games and a wonderful bunch of volunteers that put their hands up to help so you won’t be on your own!  If interested in finding out more please contact Rachael 3069962 or benview@xtra.co.nz

Off season is quite a busy time for us getting ready for the season ahead, so thanks to all our volunteers that work on maintaining our grounds and Clubrooms, put their hands up to work on Scotty’s BBQ, direct traffic for Cruise Martinborough etc etc, without our volunteers where would we be!

Our Committee heading into 2021 is Rachael Colton (President), Shaun Draper (Club Captain), Trevor Hawkins (Club Patron), Louise Henderson (Administrator), Nadia White (Bar Manager), Trina Hooper, Clayton Hartnell, Mike Charteris, Fiona Beattie, Daniel George, Tennesse Liumaihetau, Warren & Jill Pettis.
