Medici Lecture series for June
The first of the speakers for the 19th series of lectures to be held at the Medici Café in June is Shane Arndell. Shane, who will talk on Thursday June 5, was Captain of HMNZS Te Mana, New Zealand’s latest fighting frigate. He will talk about its role in conducting defence diplomacy in Asia, training for combat and hunting pirates off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.
On June 12 Jared Gulian will talk about his experiences as an “Accidental Olive Farmer”. When he moved to Martinborough in 2006 he had no idea that he was setting in motion events that would help him realise life time goals. His adventures were comical and staying open to opportunity led to more good fortune than he could possibly have imagined.
Mark Hadlow will speak on Thursday 19 June. His talk entited “Famous? Yeah right in my tea break” will cover his experiences as an actor and recollections of people he has met during his extensive and wide-ranging journey as a Hobbit among many other roles.
The final lecture on 26 June is “Making the most of your Mobile”. It will be presented by Nick Baxter who is manager of the Telecom Business Hub in Masterton.
Café Medici in Kitchener Street will open each Thursday at 6.30 p.m. for a complementary mulled wine and nibbles. Talks will begin at 7.30 p.m. The cost is $20 per lecture. Phone 06 306 9965 for bookings.
