MEET YOUR MAKER
Local lady Carol Reed is a major contributor to Boomerang Bags in Martinborough. At last count Carol had made 576 (?) bags for Martinborough! And her bag making doesn’t stop here. Currently Carol is making bags for her son Adam to sell, raising funds for the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge. Adam, a volunteer firefighter in Dunedin (?), has completed the challenge 15(?) times.
Carol’s contribution to the Challenge doesn’t stop here either! All the money from Bought to Support Boomerang Bags which she has made, available at Kitcheners, go to our local volunteer firefighters who are enlisted in the Sky Challenge this year too.
You can help our local volunteer firefighters, Annah Rait and Justin Hudepohl with their fundraising while also helping to reduce the use of plastic bags in Martinborough.
Thank you Kitcheners for volunteering your support!
A massive change is coming to our village, Pain & Kershaw and Mitre 10 are going Plastic Bag Free this year!
Whilst there are hardly ever any bags at Pain & Kershaw for everyday shopping, what has happened over the past year has influenced many to give up the plastic bag and use and reuse reusable bags. It is a great achievement as we move further towards a plastic free Martinborough.
And more exciting news, the 10,000 ‘Martinborough Bags’ will arrive shortly. These will be filtered out for use, the idea is that they are used in Martinborough and don’t leave.
Of course the intention of the Borrow and Bring Back bags, was that they also didn’t leave the town…. which hasn’t really worked as we had hoped. But, at the end of the day, as long as the bags are being used, that is less plastic!
So, further to all this, we keep up the fun task of making bags 🙂 We have an alternative venue for this, Kitcheners Cafe on a Saturday morning. It is a convenient location to drop in, have a coffee, while contributing to Boomerang Bags. Thank you Bruce, Sue and family for offering this space to the community for this. This will open up options for those who cant make it to our regular sewing bee at Thunderpants.
Sewing Bees:
Kitcheners Cafe 5th, 12, 19 and 26th May 9am – 12pm
