Rugby News
The Senior rugby season has kicked off with much enthusiasm amongst the players and supporters alike. We are fielding the one team this year, our Senior As with James Bruce at the helm. We have a lot of new young players and after a couple of early losses they are starting to hit their strides, winning on Saturday against Eketahuna, the competition winners from 2014. Expect more great things from this team as the season rolls along.
Our JAB teams have started training, their season starts on May 9 and I’m sure many of the kids are counting down! We have two Under 6 teams under the leadership of Scotty Madden and Phil Corcoran. Our Under 8s are being coached by Andy Donaldson. The Under 10s are combined with Tuhirangi and are being lead by Daniel Hawkins and Mark Clarkson.
The Under 11s are looking forward to the challenge of playing a full field and are being coached by Mike Edney, they are also combining with Tuhirangi. Our Under 13s are quite a young side but have good numbers and are very keen, they are coached by Bruce Lovell with assistance from Adam Marshall.
The Under 11 & 13s will be looking forward to playing two or three games each under lights at the new look Trust House Memorial Park. These will be Friday night games so I am sure the parents will be looking forward to not only getting to sleep in on Saturday morning but also to not having to wash mud covered clothes!
23rd May is our Club Day (aka Old-Timers Day), more details to come but there will be continuous rugby all day starting with our JAB in the morning concluding with our Senior As playing Marist at 2.30pm.
Our community gym continues to be busy, under the watchful eye of Kev Rickey, our resident personal trainer from Active Fitness. Our membership packages are very cost effective so if you are looking for a way to keep fit and stay dry as winter slowly closes in on us then check out what we have to offer.
If you are looking for a venue for your next function the clubrooms are for hire. Whether it be a party, conference, event or even just an hour or two we could accommodate you! The hall, kitchen and toilets have all had renovations done on them so the perfect venue for most occasions. Our custodian Nicholle Hawkins is happy to discuss with you, ph 3068460.
As always thank you to our volunteers, supporters, committee members and sponsors. So much goes on behind the scenes and without their support we wouldn’t have such a positive, vibrant club.
Be sure to come down to our home games, the bar is open and supporters are more than welcome to pop in. Food is available during the game from the bar. Check out posters and flyers around town for times and venues and get down and support the boys!
