This month we were treated to an excellent presentation by Catherine de Groot and Vicky Read on the proposed Waihinga Martinborough Community Centre.

As most people were aware this was motivated mainly by the need to do earthquake strengthening on the Martinborough Town Hall. We had all heard some information on the project but the presentation by Catherine and Vicky was a good overall presentation of what is proposed. They told us of the huge amount of work which has gone into ensuring the best use of the property as a community centre with inclusion of the library, plunket rooms, play areas, work space for visiting medical consultants in conjunction with the medical centre and an i-site visitor centre.

We were impressed with the in depth homework which had been done to ensure all practical issues had been dealt with including the pathway from the medical centre to assist with expediting use of the premises for visiting specialists and the layout of the plunket and play areas to make the best use of the space.

Margaaret Cole also gave us an enjoyable armchair travel around some of the National Parks of North America which she had travelled to recently. Gorgeous scenery but you would need to be fairly fit for some of their walks down into canyons and then the return uphill trek!

Anyone who would like more information on our Probus Club and our various interest groups are very welcome to contact Margaret Griffiths on 306-8102.
