South Wairarapa Rotary Club

October 14, 2013 October 2013 No Comments

South Wairarapa Rotarians have been busy this month!  Members were part of a team of around 20 hearty souls that arrived at Alistair Sutherland’s Whangaimoana property to help him pick around 10,000 daffodils, which he and Jacqui donate to the Cancer Society every year for Daffodil Day (for “a goodly amount”, according to Alastair!).  Club members also turned out to help Jim Law and other “Ducks Unlimited” supporters to plant 1,500 native flaxes at Wairio wetlands at the annual working bee to restore the South Wairarapa wetlands.  And members from all 6 Wairarapa Rotary clubs recently came together to watch “Song for Marion”, a fund-raiser for Life Flight Trust, resulting in a donation of $1,000 to them.

This month, South Wairarapa Rotary approved grants for the Ambulance Station, South Wairarapa Adult Learning Assn., Kokomai Arts Festival, and the Featherston Community Centre.  And the club has also agreed to sponsor two 14 to 17 year-old Kuranui students to Rotary’s “Youth Programme of Enrichment” weekend at Taihape in early October.

October 24th is “World Polio Day”, when we recognise and celebrate the effort being made by Rotary International to eradicate polio world-wide.  Currently, we’re extremely close to achieving this goal, and we get closer every day.  We’re “this close”!
