The Biggest Bridge Day yet
Every spring the Wharekaka Women’s Auxiliary holds a bridge and mah-jong day as their main fundraiser for the year. This year the event was held at Brackenridge on September 3rd, and attracted the largest number of players of any in its 11 year history.
In total 116 people attended, including a contingent of 40 from Wellington who all took home daffodils from Otaraia and Whangimoana.
Participants said they greatly enjoyed their day, including the sumptuous lunch prepared and served by Auxiliary members. Brackenridge was an excellent venue, with its generous space for lunch and a large room that can be divided to keep the sound of clacking mah-jong tiles from disturbing the whisper of bridge cards.
Approximately $4,000 was raised to provide for extra equipment and facilities for the residents. There is no single purchase in mind, but the funds raised are spent throughout the year as needs and requests arise.
