The Kokomai Creative Festival

August 7, 2017 August 2017 No Comments

13 to 22 October 2017

The Kokomai Creative Festival returns to the Wairarapa for its third outing on Friday the 13th October 2017. The region will once again be buzzing for 10 days with a stunning range of events covering the genres of dance, theatre, visual arts, film, circus, comedy, literature and music, lots of music.

“This Festival we have performers coming from as far away as Germany, Switzerland and Ireland plus of course lots of local New Zealand talent” says Heid Holbrook, Festival Director. “Returning this year is the hugely popular workshops which are generally run by our very successful local Wairarapa creatives”.
Events are programmed right across the Wairarapa from Martinborough, Featherston up to Masterton and out to Tinui, plus locations in between.

Kokomai is returning to the Pirinoa Community Hall this year. Having staged 2 sold out events in 2013 (Party with the Aunties) and 2015 (Hireath), Ms Holbrook is looking forward to bringing a hilarious black comedy to Pirinoa on the 15th October.

The Festival team are also trying out some new venues in Martinborough, including the St Andrew’s Hall in Dublin Street and Ventana Creative Collective. “Our quirky and versatile venues are an important part of the Festival” says Ms Holbrook, “we had an Opera in a Woolshed in 2015”.

The 2015 Festival attracted 5,500 people to the 10 days of events with one of the highlights being the sold out Julia Deans show Both Sides Now and another, the free Alice in Wonderland family event in The Town Square, Martinborough.

The full Kokomai Festival programme for 2017 will be launched to sponsors and Friends of the Festival on the 31st August and they are entitled to a priority booking period. General sales start on the 8th September at 9am and tickets will be available at kokomai.co.nz.
