WHAREKAKA NEWS

December 19, 2018 December 2019 No Comments

Another busy month has passed by at Wharekaka.Life is certainly never dull at Wharekaka.  We have begun working with the Martinborough Lions Club and Green Jersey Cycles to take residents out on their bikes around the community. Residents are enjoying this and the new way to  see the countryside!!

A lovely afternoon tea was held for long term staff member, Naomi Alloway.  Naomi retired from her position.  We wish her all the best in her retirement.

We are now looking forward to all the activities that come with the Christmas season. Starting off with the Christmas paraded and Carols in the park, look out for Wharekaka.  We hope to defend our trophy received last year at the carol singing.

Wharekaka Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary were pleased to be invited to be a food provider at the recent Pukaha garden tour, which was held on the 10/11th Nov.

We were thrilled to learn we had been allotted a position at Old Tablelands, the beautiful homestead and garden belonging to Liz Stringer and Rob Morrison. This promised to be one of the premier gardens on the tour and so it turned out.

The Morrison’s gave us carte Blanche as to where we wanted to hold our function and we decided the fabulous pool house would provide a very elegant site for our luscious garden teas. Bunting, white tablecloths and abundant flower arrangements added to the  bucolic atmosphere.

Over the two day period we served around 450 patrons and received glowing comments on the deliciousness of the offerings. This patronage , combined with a generous donation from the Morrisons, has resulted in a substantial boost to the Auxiliary’s coffers, a situation that as usual will allow us to assist Wharekaka in purchasing extra items need to enhance the quality of life for the residents.
