WHAT DOES THE WHAREKAKA TRUST BOARD DO AND WHO ARE THEY?

May 23, 2018 May 2018 No Comments

The Wharekaka Trust Board has enjoyed a very busy late summer and early autumn with its involvement in Wharekaka,  and has appreciated the input from all ten Board members. Current Board members are David Shaw, Treasurer, Cynthia Maling and Andy Sutherland, Deputy Chairs, John Bath, Liz Stevens, Helen Meehan, Joy Cooper, Greg Dalton, Karen Stephens and Patricia Logan [Chair].

We are a not for profit organisation, depending on Volunteers for the function of the Board and for support from the community through the Auxiliary.

With our governance role we have responsibility for the financial viability of Wharekaka as well as ensuring we are providing top quality care for our residents.  We do this by regular contact with the General Manager and by participating in Standing Committees which provide oversight and strategic direction.

Government subsidies are geared to larger rest homes and fail to meet the needs of a smaller home such as Wharekaka.

We need the community to have a wider understanding of our financial position and funding needs as well as encouraging greater support for Wharekaka activities. These can be contributions in kind, in addition to financial donations.

We are now looking at increasing and revitalising our membership, to nurture our existing members and to encourage further participation in the Martinborough community.

The Trust Board acknowledges with gratitude the many wonderful contributions Wharekaka receives from various local bodies and private individuals, including Rotary, Rural Women, generous bequests, the Wharekaka Auxiliary, and our marvellous staff led by GM, Corlette Doherty and the recently appointed, Clinical Manager Liz Hertzberg.

Patricia Logan (Chair).
