April 12, 2021 April 2021 No Comments

Training nights have started and it is great to see new and old faces at the gym on Wednesday nights. Warm welcome to our new wrestlers for 2021. It’s not too late to join so come and check it out on Wednesdays from 5.30pm! Gym 52 Fitzherbert Street Featherston

The national body has finalised their schedule with the first event for our wrestlers being the National Secondary Schools Championships in early April. Good luck to Toby, Spencer, Seb and Angus who will be representing Rathkeale and St Patricks Silverstream Colleges.

Wrestling benefits all sports!! Weekly training gives them a unique advantage when taking part in other sports – especially contact sports like rugby and football.

Anybody can wrestle!! Wrestling does not discriminate. No matter your body type, height or weight, there is a place for you in wrestling. In some sports only certain body types are able to succeed. Weight classes ensure fairness amongst competitors, so you’re never too small or too big to participate. If you have the desire to be a member of the team, that’s where you belong.

Jeremy Sargent is the Club head trainer and has been training the wrestlers within the club over for over 10 years. Jeremy has been a competing wrestler of the club from the age of 5 years to 20 years old. Jeremy has represented Featherston and won many gold medals in New Zealand National competitions. Jeremy was captain of the New Zealand representative team that travelled to America. Jeremy’s two biggest achievements in wrestling have been winning Gold at the Oceanic Championships and another gold at the Asian Oceanic Championships.
