We are pleased we decided to hold our weekly meetings during July and August in our hall instead of the church, and we are enjoying the cosier relaxed setting which has encouraged interesting and open discussion – re-examining what we find important about our faith, looking at the long history and development of Christianity and sharing how we can understand its place and its meaning for us today. We have been thinking about interaction of history and truth, looking to find a truth in the old Bible “stories” which makes sense for us now. LIFE’S a BEACH?

It probably won’t come as a surprise to you readers that the subject of water has been much on my mind of late. Hopefully this does not imply I’m wet behind the ears, or have ‘water on the brain’ thanks to an impervious skull; but it seems to have snuck its way into most other crevices.

Many things aquatic have flowed into conversations recently. First we delighted in our success in the America’s Cup; at the same time learning how to foil the opposition and the significance of the timely expression ‘On Yer Bike!’ However, more recently, our delight has been almost swamped by a deluge almost beyond belief. Life flight rescues Life Flight’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Air Ambulance Plane helped 106 people between 27 June and 26 July. 10 of those patients are from the Wairarapa region. The photo taken was in the Wairarapa earlier this month. The patient had been injured in a farm tractor incident.

Award-winning New Zealand author, Carole Brungar will be guest speaker at an afternoon tea to be held in Martinborough on August 27th. The author will be speaking about her latest novel, The Nam Legacy and signing copies. Set in New Zealand and Vietnam, The Nam Legacy is an epic love story set during the 60’s and 70’s.
