Well it is a busy time for all Councillors with the Draft LTP Road Show going to Martinborough, Featherston, Greytown and Tuturumuri as well as fitting in a half-day meeting in Carterton for the Morrison Low Presentation we commissioned re Local Governance and a Council and Policy & Finance Meeting plus a Zone 4 Meeting in the Hutt all in the same week.
Spleens were vented at the LTP meetings – toilets, the Martinborough Town Hall, swimming pools Councillor salary increases (we didn’t get one except the Mayor $300), signage, sewerage, stormwater and rate arrears were all hot topics that provided lively meetings. … Continue Reading

Fish ‘n chips
What can be nicer than home made fish and chips? And as a bonus not saturated in fats.
Chips
Agria potatoes are ideal. Cut potatoes into wedges and par boil. Drain well then coat lightly with oil (olive or soya) and put in pre heated oven to bake until outsides are golden and crisp (the centres will be light and fluffy). Stir from time to time so that they do not stick to the tray.

On the 23rd May 2012 a special resident at Wharekaka Rest Home passed away. Saying that, all our residents are special – but this lady had been associated with Wharekaka from the dream to establish a facility to serve the district’s elderly in 1972, until 23 May 2012 – some 40 years later.
Ruth Hewitt was a member of Red Cross, when on the 26th July 1972 a meeting was held at Martinborough Maternity home to discuss the proposal to establish a Day Care Centre in the town. A proposal was made to the Wairarapa Hospital Board to establish a day facility as a first step on the way to providing care for the elderly. … Continue Reading
