Only a billion
These days when discussing finance politicians invariably talk in billions of dollars, I.E. “the deficient is only four billion dollars” or “the project is only one and a half billion”. The problem being that without any idea of what an enormous number a billion is we tend to focus on the four or the one and a half and think ‘that’s not too bad’.
It’s not just New Zealand politicians who have cottoned on to this sleight of hand, it is practiced by politicians world wide. Thanks Sue

On the 7th May Board Members, Womens’ Auxiliary and residents joined in a special celebration at the home to congratulate Sue Eberlein on 30 years’ service to the facility. Sue has seen many changes over the years. We understand that she has held many positions at the facility over this time and was heard to say that it doesn’t feel like 30 years that she has been here. Well done Sue for all your dedication and the smile you bring to your job. We would be lost without you.

Descendents of pioneer families were disappointed when there was no celebration to mark the centennial of the opening of the Waihenga Bridge (SH53 over the Ruamahunga River) in January and don’t want to repeat that oversight for the Town Hall.
The first name on the foundation stone is J Martin, John of Puruatanga and the Centennial Steering Group includes a great-grandson, Martin Lawrence, and a great-great-grandaughter Lucy Lawrence. Descendents of other early families and people newer to the area are on the list: … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1.
