An interesting result

A poll of UK Labour members asked them if they had favourable views of all their previous leaders.

Amazingly the guy who got their worst result in 80 years topped the poll. In order their leader favourability is:

  1. Jeremy Corbyn (lost two elections) 71%
  2. Ed Miliband (lost one election) 70%
  3. John Smith (died) 67%
  4. Clement Attlee (won two elections, PM for 6 years) 66%
  5. Gordon Brown 65% (lost one election)
  6. Harold Wilson 62% (won three, lost two elections, PM for 8 years)
  7. Neil Kinnock 46% (lost one election)
  8. Michael Foot 45% (lost one election)
  9. James Callaghan (lost one election)

10 Tony Blair 37 (won three elections, lost none, PM for 10 years)

Seems they really love their losers.

Star Crossed

So often a book which is touted as funny is, to me anyway, more like pathetic, maybe I’m becoming curmudgeonly?  Happily Star Crossed is funny. First time author Minnie Darke (a pseudonym perhaps?) has produced a very amusing tale .

She has a friend from school days who she worries about. While talented he is not good at making decisions and is drifting through life getting nowhere.

Justine is aware that he sets a lot of store by the star signs and what they say and so is a close follower of the paper’s  monthly horoscope predictions. She sees an opportunity to re-write the Aquarius predictions, his star sign,  to nudge him in the right direction. … Continue Reading

Community Garden News

March 12, 2020 March 2020 Comments Off on Community Garden News

We’ve survived and the garden is looking good!

This really is a time of thanks and gratitude, as at the hottest and most trying time for our crops we were faced with a total watering ban for a large part of the last month. We were not able to use the hose and water from our very generous neighbour at 49 Oxford Street…this being our only source of water.  … Continue Reading
