Outward Bound Korowai Course 2021 Celebrations

South Wairarapa Inner Wheel Club donated $500 towards this course.

The outward bound Korowai course returnees celebration was held on 18th November, two of our members attended. The Korowai Course is specifically for Y12 students from Wairarapa Secondary schools, each school sends two students.

The students we spoke to said how the course helped to build their confidence, self-worth and how it gave them whole of life skills.

Two students spoke to the parents and sponsors. They spoke from the heart when saying they felt the Wairarapa group was a special group due to the closeness they had for each other and support the community in the Wairarapa. They felt that they had formed strong friendships and bonds for life.

One of their tasks was to run a half marathon, something none of them had done before, at the end of which they all agreed it was something they wouldn’t want to repeat. However after they had returned to the Wairarapa they contacted one another and decided to go for a run. From the Mayor

Following a fantastic summer, with bouts of rain to keep things greener than normal, it is unfortunate to find ourselves in a ‘red traffic light’ situation. 

I suppose it had to happen, and we will have to learn to live with this virus in some form or another. I encourage you to visit the Covid-19 website to read about where to get vaccinated for your whole family, aged 5 years+, where to get tested, how to self-isolate safely, and locations of interest, to name a few.

I have had a lot of complaints about businesses not complying with the rules around face masks and Vaccine Pass checking. Breaches will be reported to WorkSafe and the police, so it is in the community’s interests to follow whatever rules are in place.

Following a bequest, members of the community working with artist Sam Ludden to commission a fantastic artwork for the Waihinga Centre, and we look forward to this in the coming months.

Berm mowing is improving around the town as residents get used to the new status quo. If you know of residents struggling to mow their berms, please contact the Council to see if we can assist finding someone to help. … Continue Reading

THE CAMBRIDDGESHIRE town of Huntingdon has recently received an Outstanding commendation from the Royal Horticultural Society. Amongst other projects is the recycling of heat generated by its electric crematorium to warm a glasshouse used to grow plants for the town’s flower beds.’

THERE IS NO charge to enjoy a swim at the town pool. Make use of the excellent facility.
