Martinborough Business Association

August 2, 2022 August 2022, Regular Features Comments Off on Martinborough Business Association

We  don’t always get it right…. In last month’s article our focus was on the Olive oil industry in Martinborough, We spelt the name of one of the formative olive growers incorrectly. Our apologies go to Colin and Nalini Baruch. We will do better.

Relationships…..

The  Martinborough Business Association holds the building and growing of relationships important and  central to what we do. We continually look at how we can best serve and support the broad range of members. This year we decided to classify the businesses into sectors and appoint a committee member as the lead for each sector. This was to improve communications between members and the committee

(leads create opportunities for this) and to provide the committee with real time information to help with the  decisions that need to be made. The sectors are Retail & Hospitality, Accommodation, Activities & Olive Growers, Vineyards & Professional services.

At the regional level we’ve entered into a partnership with Business Wairarapa ( the regional Chamber of Commerce) . This will provide our members  access to comprehensive training and development  packages, member to member offerings and broader business after five / network opportunities. Additionally our Association gets a seat on the Business Wairarapa Board which increasingly is a vehicle for regional business feedback between central and local governments. Allan Hogg our Chair is the current member. Business Wairarapa will include Carterton and Featherston at the completion of their developments. It will be great to be involved in whole of Wairarapa considerations. … Continue Reading

FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

August 2, 2022 August 2022, Regular Features Comments Off on FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

Gosh time flies, another month rolls around. The Brigade has been keeping well occupied with both fire and medical responses, including responding the recent Hinakura house fire that unfortunately resulted in a total loss of the building.

The Fire Station is unattended, for advice or to contact us,  you can phone Chief Jake Hawkins on 0272-559-440.

Our fire safety message this month is about the ” This winter, see a fire before it starts “. There are multiple hazards that are easily controlled by a few simple steps –

  • Heaters have at least a metre of clear space surrounding them while in use
  • Clothing and other items are not left to dry on top of heaters
  • Fresh air is coming into the house when a Gas heater is in use
  • Clothes dryers are often forgotten so check the lint filter is cleaned before every use, check the dryer isn’t overloaded, and use the full cycle including cool down
  • Open fireplaces need a fireguard or spark guard when the fire is lit
  • Ashes are left to cool before disposing of them, ensure ashes/ashtray are emptied into a metal bin and store them on concrete or grass.

We have had a good response from interested people but as usual if you are interested in becoming a Firefighter or a dedicated Medical Responder (you can be both if you want !) please contact our Chief Jake Hawkins directly by emailing – Jacob.hawkins@fireandemergency.nz. or pop on down and have a chat on Tuesday Training nights to meet us.

We are particularly looking for daytime/weekday Firefighters and Medical Responders, even if you can do it just while the kids are at school, and you don’t have to be available all the time, you will be fully equipped, trained and get to work in a fantastic team.

SEVENS RUGBY began more than a century ago when some Scottish small village rugby clubs were having difficulty making up teams of 15. The first games were held on 28th April 1883
