COUNCILLOR COMMENT

December 19, 2017 December 2017 No Comments

Congratulations to Kiri Elworthy and Jenny Bargh of The Tora Coastal Walk on being finalists in the Enterprising Rural Women Awards 2017 and taking out a category win with the Agrisea New Zealand Love of the Land Award.

It is great to see Kiri & Jenny being recognized for their talent and business skills in promoting, running and expanding the popular walk to locals and visitors from all parts of the world.

Amalgamation
Well this will be the last we can say on this topic – If you haven’t already voted, then please make sure you have your say and please pop your voting paper in the Council offices as they have a box for these in reception. This will ensure that your vote is received on time and can be counted. The deadline is 12th December at midday.

Annual Report
Congratulations to management and staff for the smoothest transition in preparing the Annual Report and sticking to the budgets during the year, a great result and a big tick from the Audit Office. It is great to see all the good work being done behind the scenes to make our community a safe and vital place to live and work.

Council Committees
It has been a year of great accomplishments by Council Committees with all members working hard to achieve results. The Wairarapa Library Service is a superb facility we take for granted with an excellent selection of books which can be ordered on-line or in person. The librarians are gearing up for the school holidays with a great summer reading programme. Make sure your children take part.

The Martinborough pool will be ready for the start of the season – remember this year this is FREE for everyone, so make sure you come along and enjoy a day and try out the new equipment the Martinborough Community Board have provided.

Mayors Task Force for Jobs
Along with Mayor Viv Napier, I attended the end of the year achievement awards for those who have been part of an apprenticeship programme, completing levels in their particular field of choice and those who have completed their full training. It was pleasing to see the variety of disciplines being covered and especially those who live and work in South Wairarapa. Well done to you all.

Christmas & New Year
On behalf of Pip, Jeppy and myself, we would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. We live in a great place and hope that summer delivers something for everyone – enough rain for the farmers and enough sun for the grapes.
