FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

June 13, 2022 June 2022 No Comments

Almost halfway through the year already ! The Brigade has this last month been steady with both Medical Responses from our First Responders, which now makes up about 65-70% of our work, and our usual responses to Motor Vehicle Accidents, and Fire related calls.

We met and reviewed the success of the Medical First Response program with our Training and response partner Wellington Free Ambulance, and hope to have some training dates shortly for those who have indicated their desire or joined the Medical Response Team. Just a wee reminder about COVID, please answer any questions around Covid symptoms or test results honestly, we do put on extra PPE to help protect our volunteers.

A big shout out to our Community, we have had wonderful baking delivered to the Brigade by members of our wonderful District, and we really do appreciate you thinking about us, it is great to know we are held in such high esteem by you, thank you.

As the cold starts to bite and winter is just around the corner, a couple of quick points to note :

  • Have you had your chimney swept ??
  • Are your smoke alarms working and been tested ??
  • Make sure ashes are in a metal container and cool away from flammable items like decks and sheds, let them cool for a couple of days before disposing of them

We have had a good response from interested people but as usual if you are interested in becoming a Firefighter or a dedicated Medical Responder (you can be both if you want !) please contact our Chief Jake Hawkins directly by emailing – Jacob.hawkins@fireandemergency.nz. or pop on down and have a chat on Tuesday Training nights to meet us, we are particularly looking for daytime/weekday Firefighters and Medical Responders, even if you can do it just while the kids are at school.
