Martinborough Golf Report

June 13, 2022 June 2022 No Comments

It has been a busy few months on the course with green fee players and interclub and the course is looking stunning in the Autumn sunshine.

Last weekend we hosted the Eastwood Motor Group Beef & Burgundy Ambrose with a full field of 36 teams with the winners going away with magnificent meat packs and Pinot Noir.

Last week the Ladies hosted their Open Day with a good field of 62 players from as far away as Australia.  Playing conditions were perfect so it was surprising that there were only two players who managed to play under their handicap and there were only three twos.

The 9 holers recently hosted the Southey Honda Tournament which is Martinborough v Masterton with Masterton taking the trophy away with them.  Every Wednesday the 9 holers are getting good numbers turning up and recent winners have been Jill Murphy, Karen Harvey, Alison Russell, Lizzy Thomson and Jenny Tosswill.

18 hole winners over the last couple of months have been Sherry Weatherstone, Ann Hume, Julie Weber, Kelly Taylor, Sandra Petersen, Ju Allen, Katrina Burgess and Carol Parkinson.  There haven’t been a huge number of twos but those that have managed to get one are Honor Clark, Mary Desbonnets, Karen Shaw, Carol Parkinson, Ju Allen, Mariana McDermott, Sherry Weatherstone and Sarah Monaghan.

hursday Club continues to get a good turnout every week with recent winners being Glen Schofer, Ro Griffiths, Lloyd Warren, Ailsa Malneek, Chris Handley, Sandra Petersen, Paul Riddiford and Malcolm Bridge.  There has been an abundance of twos:  Jason Shaw (3), Blake Walker, Randal Warner, Malcolm Wood (2), Chris Ranish, Colin Whibley-Smith, Craig Andrews, Sheldon McNamara, Nick Morison (3 in one round), Brian Russo, Andrew McKenzie, Doug Clark (2), Andy Morison (2), Brent McKinlay, Seamus O’Sullivan, Bob Schofield, Ailsa Malneek, Glen Schofer (3), Kane Sim, Darren Bevan, Marie Scrimshaw, Trevor Petersen, Paul Riddiford, Mariana McDermott and Kris Chamberlain.

Grumpies continues to increase in numbers and winners have been Andy Morison, Arthur Warren (twice), Andrew McKenzie, Richard Thompson (twice), Malcolm Bridge and Jason Shaw.  Twos have gone to Tony Taylor (2), Arthur Warren, Seamus O’Sullivan (2), Chris Handley, Lachie McLeod, Allan Eagle, Ritch Wood, Paul Harris, Bob Tosswill, Andrew McKenzie (2), Brian Russo (3), Andy Morison, Malcolm Bridge (3), Derek Stephens, Jason Shaw (2) and Bill Gordon.

Winners from the weekend competitions are:  George Kirk, Doug Ferguson, Kris Chamberlain, Jason Shaw, Ed Brown, Guy Walmsley (twice), Terry Fraei, Chris Ranish, Barry Johnson, Robin Brasell, Ant North, Alison Tipler and Olivia Clark.  The Birds Nest has been won 4 times recently with Malcolm Wood and John Warner both having two twos on the same day and a couple of weeks later Jason Shaw won it and a couple of weeks after that Chris Ranish won it.  It would seem that twos are easy to get on a weekend for the following players:  Malcolm Wood (5), Dayle Scrimshaw (2), Derek Stephens (2), Phil Eberlein (2), Steven Croft, Brian Russo, Carol Parkinson, Brent McKinlay, Doug Ferguson, Nick Morison, Karen Stephens, Rob Lopez, Barry Johnson, Peter Schenk, Guy Walmsley, Bob Schofield, Jason Shaw, Kris Chamberlain, Chris Ranish, Robin Brasell, Ant North, Bob Tosswill, Mark Lucock, Chris Handley and Ju Allen.

This week we farewell Jan and Doug Ferguson who are moving north to be closer to their family.  We wish them well and hopefully they will be back visiting on a regular basis.

That’s it for this month Kris Chamberlain
