Martinborough Mens Shed

March 15, 2019 March 2019 No Comments

The Martinborough Mens Shed continues with many and varied activities. Recent ones have included:

  • Repairing and painting book shelves for the library in the new premises
  • Building a box for the collection and safe return of books through the after-hours slot at the library
  • Repairs to toys for the toy library, kindergarten and playcentre
  • Various jobs in the museum
  • An old historical garden seat, kindly donated by Martin Lawrence, is being refurbished. It will be situated at the museum.

Partnering with Wharekaka

Recently the Mens Shed worked with Wharekaka to fell four oak trees on the perimeter of their Oxford St property. This will provide the space for two additional villas, part of Wharekaka’s ongoing development. The timber for these trees will be put to very good use by the Mens Shed. Some will be milled to be used in a variety of ways, such as for table tops. The timber from the larger limbs will be used for woodturning. The greenery and smaller branches have been mulched. Many thanks to Wharekaka.

Speaker Programme – Minding your Affairs

The last speaker for 2018 was Ed Cooke who drew on his highly valuable legal expertise. He spoke on wills, trusts and powers of attorneys. Feedback has been that this spurred several members into important action. The February speaker is Keith Hales, who will speak on insurance related matters.
