Men’s Shed

July 25, 2016 July 2016 No Comments

Men's-ShedThe Old Courthouse has undergone significant improvements under the guidance of the refurbishment team of Colin Chamberlain, Richard Tannant, Adrian Blackett and Ashton Tannant. Through their hard work along with help from other members at various times one workroom up and running. New lighting, cleaned floors, repaired walls and ceiling, and fully painted now means the room is ready to go. The first machine, a wood lathe, has been installed along with two new work benches. Ted Colenso is ready to help anyone wanting to give it a go. More equipment and tools will be added from the temporary shed facility as space and time permits.

Come along on Saturday or Wednesday from 10 to noon for a cuppa and look at the amazing progress being made. Note that the outside painting will be postponed until better weather in spring but much work has already been done by the painting team of Derek Wilson, Dave Lawrence, Ray Lind and Jack Priest to repair, scrape and clean the weatherboards these past few months.

Ian Thomson crafted an internal mail box at the Old Courthouse utilising the slot in the front doors. Our official address is now
Martinborough Mens Shed The Old Courthouse 20 Cork Street Martinborough 5711

Although we are not quite fully functional at the Courthouse, some projects are being working on by members at their homes. A toy kitchen set for the New Entrants at Martinborough School is nearly completed.
Several members of the public have dropped off knives to sharpen ($4.00 per knife is the suggested rate). A set of nesting tables have been repaired and restored. Spinning wheels have been repaired. Wooden templates were made to replace the paper ones used in making baby bibs. All these project generate income for the Shed, which is what we need to cover operating costs.
We are starting to think about inviting speakers and other programmes such as tool demonstrations for shed members. Any ideas or volunteers to help develop this aspect of shed activities, please contact anyone at the Shed.
