What a privilege it is to be a part of the community that is “Martinborough”
The Midwinter Monster Book fair in mid- June might be the last significant community function held our elderly town hall before refurbishment takes place, and this 7th Annual Mid-Winter Book Fair was an outstanding success, with bargain good-quality books going out the door all weekend. It is heartening to see that despite the technology advancements of Kindle, e-books and the like there is still a place for real books.
This event is about the recycling of books, and a mighty team effort, which saw many people from in and around Martinborough willingly giving up time to support this cause.
Sincere thanks are extended to the people of Martinborough and the wider community – all those who responded to the need to help with all the different tasks to make the fair work.

To our schools: Tuturumuri, Pirinoa, Kahutara, Featherston and Martinborough who supported and advertised the event through their newsletters. To our drop-off points: Martinborough Transport, Pirinoa Store, P&K, and of course our Library. To The Martinborough Star. To our Banana box supplier, P&K. To those who dutifully came to The First Church hall each week to sort the books. To those who walked the floor over the weekend. To our entertaining speaker on the opening evening Dr Janet Davidson. To Sue and Bruce Sullivan of Kitchener’s for managing our raffle – won by Ngaire Castles. To the Martinborough Transport boys who transported the books to the Town Hall and set up the trestles and books. To the Martinborough Rugby Boys who helped with the clean-up.
