Australian free lance photographer Greg Elms was contracted by The Lonely Planet Guide to photograph a number of Chinese dishes to be used as illustrations for a book, already written, on dining in China.

The assignment took six weeks during which he covered much of the country, mostly well away from the major cities. He shot off 196 rolls of film in many cases, along with those of the requested foods, taking scenes which appealed to him as a photographer. Barrel racing time has come around again with this years races being held on Saturday 16th of this month commencing at 4pm. Once again the staff of the various vineyards will pit their skills in an effort to dethrone last years winners, Palliser Vineyard.

Meanwhile the local businesses have been putting the final touches to their trolleys for the Craft Barrel racing. Last year it was noted that some entries had modifications which could have posed a risk of injury. It’s November again so time for gardeners to show off their efforts. Martinborough has hosted a Rose Show since the early 1940’s and it has seen lots of changes over the years. What was the traditional “Rose Show” was renamed ‘Martinborough Rose & Flower Show’ – hopefully to encourage more entries and visitors.

2013’s event will be held this Saturday, November 9th at the Town Hall. Entries [which are free] are staged from 7.45a.m. until ten. Schedules are available in local shops and at Martinborough Property Brokers, who sponsor this annual event. … Continue Reading
