Pony Club Gymkhana
Due to the torrential rains leading up to the weekend the ground at Considine park was very soft and would have cut up badly under horse hoofs. As a result the South Wairarapa Pony Club’s Annual Gymkhana was transferred to the Clareville grounds.
An impressive fifteen trophies were up for competition at the South Wairarapa Pony Club’s Martinborough Gymkhana. Riders competed on their ponies in over nine events for a coveted ribbon and ultimately a trophy. Events were divided into kindergarten, junior and senior classes making for a very full day’s competition.
In 2010 the long established Martinborough Pony Club, amalgamated with the Carterton Club to form the South Wairarapa Pony Club. The regular Club rallies are held alternately at the Clareville and Martinborough grounds.
The Pony Club’s objective is to provide a pleasant learning environment in which to expand equestrian knowledge and skills. Promoting fair play and self discipline along with proper care for the welfare of their horses.
The club has an experienced Head Instructor who is assisted by assistant instructors on rally days. As members move through levels of achievement certificates are awarded. The aim is to ensure that everyone can ride well enough to establish a safe and happy partnership with their pony.
Along with the regular rallies club members take part in competitions with other regional clubs at Trentham, Belmont, Solway and Battle Hill. The South Wairarapa Club’s attractive uniform is a green, red and white top worn over a white shirt and green tie.
