Mb-ladies-HockeyWow what a season!
Martinborough Ladies Hockey entered just one team in the Wairarapa Women’s Hockey Competition this year, in the Women’s 3 Grade. The team played very extremely well all season, winning all but three of our games, and one of these was a draw. We finished on top of the table after the round-robins and beat Featherston Foxies 3-1 in the final. Well done girls!

As a recent fundraiser, members of the team were waitresses at a 50th birthday party at the Town Hall. We are always looking for fundraising opportunities such as these. … Continue Reading

(Performed on Radio Pacific on 27 February 2003, the first anniversary of the death of Spike Milligan.)

All better now, Spike Milligan.
You’ll never feel ill again
Or need to take a pill again
Or get a doctor’s bill again.

No contracts to fulfil again
To give the fans a thrill again
And drive you mad until again
You’re certifiable again. … Continue Reading

South Wairarapa Science Fair

October 19, 2015 October 2015 Comments Off on South Wairarapa Science Fair

School-science-fairFor a small area like the South Wairarapa, 34 entries in the local schools’ science fair is a commendable effort. The fair was open to Years 5-8, and entries were limited to four per school. Nine schools participated and the honours were spread amongst them.

Eric Daube from Martinborough School explained that the brief was aimed at widening entries beyond the traditional experiment approach. Students were encouraged to “engage with science and come up with interesting questions to investigate”. The judges were very impressed both with the standard of entries and the imaginative ways students had taken the brief. As a result, there was a wide range of fascinating topics on display, including Worm Wee or Water, Hot Cups, The Sheep Restaurant, Loom Band Strength, Does Age Affect Memory, The Equine Mind, Noise versus Silence, and the Truth about Teeth. … Continue Reading
