September 21, 2016 September 2016 Comments Off on Rugby

rugbyJAB rugby has just finished for the season, a season which seems to have flown by. The weather being kind to us means that we got lots of rugby played – awesome!

We would like to make special mention of all our wonderful team coaches and managers, who give up so much of their time to be a part of our club. If you have ever wanted to coach and aren’t sure how to go about it, keep an eye out towards the end of the year when we ask for applications.

Our club prize giving is going to once again be a “whole club” affair. Put Saturday 1st October in your diaries, times to be confirmed. This will be a fun, family event, and all our players and their families and supporters are welcome to come along and catch up.
We are currently holding a “design the jersey” competition, open to all our registered JAB players. The winning design will be made into next year’s kit.

On the subject of our new JAB jerseys, we would like to say a huge thank you to Conor & Pip Kershaw from P&K and Mitre10, who have agreed to sponsor ALL of our new JAB jerseys. Thank you guys!

September 21, 2016 September 2016 Comments Off on Waihinga Centre Turf Turning

10th September 2016, from midday outside the Martinborough Town Hall on Texas Street.
Formal Blessing, Turf Turning, Hula Hooping, Live Music, Sausage Sizzle and Prizes
The blessing and turf turning will formally mark the start of the construction phase of the Waihinga Centre project and will be followed by some fun activities for all ages.
Lucy Cooper from Coops Hoops will be bringing her unique brand of energy and enthusiasm to teach a mass hooping event. There are prizes to be won including a tablet, Wellington accommodation, Toast Martinborough tickets, Circus Cinema tickets and a wine selection.
The younger children can take part in their own bark turning – with lucky dip prizes available.
Jazz in Martinborough will be presenting Kate & Bob to provide the musical entertainment. Kate Marshall and Bob Cooper-Grundy are exceptional musicians and long-time friends and supporters of Jazz in Martinborough.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have volunteered their time and expertise, prizes and more. Special thanks to Dusty and Lulu for their design work.

Supporter Profile: Di and John Martin
“Old John Martin loved projects and would be thrilled with the Waihinga development”, says Di Martin, speaking of her husband John’s Great Grandfather and founder of Martinborough back in the 1880s.
“We need to keep moving forward for Martinborough to thrive and we’re very lucky that our small village has a community that is so passionate, so involved and so keen to make it happen.” That’s why John and I were also happy to support the project.
For Di and John bringing amenities like the library and information centre together makes excellent sense and will create a vibrant new area on that side of The Square. They believe the project will not only enhance Martinborough but also add to the region’s attractiveness as a place to visit and to live. “All our towns benefit from any new initiatives in the district.”

The Importance of Microchipping your Cat

September 21, 2016 September 2016 Comments Off on The Importance of Microchipping your Cat

Some cats are known to wander.
Whether you have moved house and your cat keeps returning to the old place or neighbours. You go on holiday and your cat decides to pack a cut lunch and heads out to try and find you!

Even a bad storm or Guy Fawkes Night can send our furry friends heading for the hills. If a cat is microchipped, they can be taken to your local veterinary clinic where a staff member will scan it to see if a microchip number is detected. They can then match the microchip number to you the client.

You can also register your cats’ microchip number on the National Database which means, if found outside your local area, they can be traced from anywhere in NZ…just go online with the microchip number.

Another great reason for microchipping your cat is for the use of microchip cat doors which, with your cats microchip number programmed into it, will only let your cat through the door and not every cat in the neighbourhood!

You can now also get microchip pet feeders so that you can have your cats’ food bowl on the floor without the family pooch being able to access the cat food. These feeders are great for specialised diet requirements in a multi-cat household.
Sounds puuurfect!

Town Business Directory to be Up-dated

September 21, 2016 September 2016 Comments Off on Town Business Directory to be Up-dated

Every two years the Martinborough Street Map and Business Directory is revised and up-dated by the Lions Club of Martinborough, and this should be completed later this year. The Map and Directory feature on the two large information panels, one at the Information Centre in Kitchener street, and the other near the Town Hall in the Square.

The Directory has eight sections: Professional, Recreation Activities, Retail, Trades, Accommodation, Food and Refreshments, Wineries, and Olive Groves. The listing fees are $20 for existing listings and $40 for new listings.

Each listing includes name, address, e-mail, phone number and description of the business. It also includes a reference to its location on the Map, also on the panel.

Existing listings will be contacted shortly to confirm their requirements in the new edition. New entries are welcome and can be initiated by e-mailing Lions Club member Hiatt Cox on hiatt.cox@xtra.co.nz. (Do it now!).

This Directory and Map is an excellent source of information as to ‘who-is-who’ in the Martinborough business world.
