Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade is male-dominated, but in numbers only, not in culture. Women of Martinborough are now lining up to help the Brigade sort out the numbers. We strongly encourage anyone who has not yet contacted us to step forward.

The Martinborough Brigade is keen to be approached by all interested potential volunteers but is currently specifically recruiting people available for daytime callouts, and, in particular, women. Martinborough is a dynamic brigade, with a good range of ages, backgrounds and skills, but it is seeking to more accurately reflect in its membership the diversity of the community it supports. The Brigade recognises that diversity brings fresh perspectives and new ideas to the organisation and long-term sustainability of the firefighting force for the community. … Continue Reading

One of last year’s prize winners  ‘End of the day’ by Jannelle Preston Searle.

This wonderful photograph “End of the Day” was third placegetter in last year’s inaugural summer pix competition, run by Trish Higginson and Karina Hailwood, creative directors of Martinborough Village. As the judges said, it was a “lovely homage to summertime”. Now it’s time again to roam around Martinborough, camera in hand, capturing images that reflect and display the essence of this very special place.

This year entries are being accepted on the Martinborough Village website at https://villagehub.martinborough-village.co.nz . Go to Village Hub top right on the screen, then select the summer pix stream and upload your entries. There is no limit on the number of entries, and this year there is an under-13 category for your most youthful photographers.
The brief is very easy and clear: Martinborough in summertime. As Trish puts it “ we’re having a spectacular summer and we’re looking for an image that reflects this and encapsulates Martinborough at this time of year”. … Continue Reading

One of the new seats

Happy New Year to everyone, We hope that you have had time to enjoy our beautiful summer days and relax with family and friends.

The first Community Board meeting for this year will be on the 1st February and there is a very full agenda. The Agenda is always posted on the SWDC website under Martinborough Community Board minutes. Please feel free to look at this and if there is anything you would like to comment on or have your say – then please contact anyone of the Board members. We meet approximately every 6 weeks, there is also facebook and the website to have your say.
Please take a walk along the path through Considine Park and take a moment to sit on one of the two new seats that have been put in the park – they look fantastic. These have been donated by the family of the late Peter Craig who served on the Community Board for many years and worked tirelessly for our town. The other has been donated by the Community Board. A huge big thank you to Martinborough Lions who laid the concrete foundations and installed the seating.
