CLOSED UNTIL 3rd SEPTEMBER CARNIVAL

June 14, 2016 June 2016 Comments Off on CLOSED UNTIL 3rd SEPTEMBER CARNIVAL

Cross Creek Railway has had an eventful 2016 Summer Season and is now closed for capital improvements, returning for the Summer Season Opening, with our Mini Train Carnival, Train Rides Stalls Music and Entertainment.

Steampunk (Victorian-inspired science fiction) will be there….

Steampunk commonly features technology out of its time; whether that means ladies and gentlemen of the 1880s with ray guns and computers or a modern society still using steam-powered transport and equipment. Steampunk costume borrows from Victorian and Edwardian periods, from about the mid-1800s to the early 1900s – but ’blinged up’ with decoration, gadgets and weapons that don’t have to work but should look as though they might.

Quirky activities are very much a part of Steampunk. Steampunk settles disputes by tea duelling, exercise by playing flamingo croquet, and get much amusement from racing teapots. Splendid Teapot Racing is New Zealand’s gift to the world.

Take a basic radio-controlled vehicle, remove the body, add a teapot, decorate to taste and race against the clock through an obstacle course of breakable china and fiendish ramps. Created in Dunedin in late 2013, Splendid Teapot Racing has now spread to Europe and the USA and has recently spawned a new offshoot, Teapot Sheepdog Trials.

Come to the 3rd September Carnival so as not to miss this amazing Steampunk group comprised of Capital! Steampunk (Wellington) and the newly formed WaiSteampunk group from the Wairarapa.

Please become a member, we need you! It is only $10 single $15 family of 4 for membership. Free Rides go with your membership, so come and be part of a growing Society. Wonderful Fun!
