Life Flight’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter has flown to the Wairarapa nine times so far this month (between 1 Feb and 21 Feb). That’s an average of three times per week.

Three of the responses were for urgent medical reasons. The remaining were accident or search & rescue, including a challenging winch rescue of a Dutch couple from the Putangirua Pinnacles.

Life Flight is hosting an Open Day at its Air Rescue Centre in Wellington on Sunday 19 March. More details at www.lifeflight.org.nz/openday

The recent fire in the Port Hills near Christchurch brings into sharp focus the ever present danger wild fire presents to communities. Tragically, this fire resulted in one fatality and significant property loss. Fires of this magnitude do not occur often but as history shows, they have occurred before. And they will occur again. The key difference between the events was that the Wither Hills area is largely un-populated farmland therefore the material losses were much less. The firefighting costs however were significant. … Continue Reading

Submissions closed for the Draft Easter Trading Policy. A number of submissions were received, these will be heard at a special Council meeting on the 2nd March.  If you would like to hear what the submitters have to say, then come along to the meeting commencing at 9.00am in the Council Chambers.

Martinborough Community Board offered free swims at the Martinborough pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and although this has been well patronized, numbers have not been as high as was expected, possibly due to the weather. The Community Board have extended this until the end of the Season and the days will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As the weather has finally warmed up, it would be great to see everyone taking advantage of this special offer. Congratulations to the Community Boards across the South Wairarapa on this great initiative. … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
