Greytown Music Group Chamber Music Concerts 2017

March 15, 2017 March 2017 Comments Off on Greytown Music Group Chamber Music Concerts 2017

Chamber Music originated in the Middle Ages, with singers and small groups of players entertaining kings and nobles in chambers – large rooms – in palaces and castles. During the 18th and 19th centuries composers were often employed by aristocrats, and music was performed for their friends and family. Boccherini composed for the King of Spain, Haydn for Count Esterhazy, who played the baryton,( a small 7 string instrument similar to a cello), Mozart for King Frederick Wilhelm of Prussia, a cellist, and many of Beethoven’s string quartets were composed for and performed with Count Razumovsky on second violin. … Continue Reading

WBS Martinborough FC News

March 15, 2017 March 2017, Sports Comments Off on WBS Martinborough FC News

After recently taking over the Junior Soccer side of things, myself and a team of willing parents have recently started up a Development/skills training session for all the local children who are interested in Football/Soccer. These are held every Saturday morning at the Coronation Park grounds in New York Street from 9.30am until 11am (weather permitting). There is no charge for attending as the parents involved are doing this purely to develop our children and because we enjoy the game too. The feedback so far from kids who attend and their parents has been a fantastic thumbs up and this is only the start!

Also, working on from the Juniors, we have been successful in getting approval from Capital Football for a Senior Martinborough side to start this season (April 2017) and a huge thank you to Wairarapa Building Society for their sponsorship to enable us to purchase our initial kit – the team will be known officially as WBS Martinborough FC from here on in. … Continue Reading

ALEX NYMAN – GREYTOWN MUSICIAN

Our mini-speaker this month was Anne Dodd. Anne was born in Glasgow where she came from a very happy household. She went to university at St Andrews for four years in the early 60’s which was a great time for the education programme in Scotland and gave students a broad basis for the rest of their lives. At that time St Andrews was very much a “town and gown” city of a modest size – about the size of Masterton.

She married Richard in 1967 and set up home in Edinburgh where she worked in Edinburgh Library. Richard was head hunted to New Zealand in 1967. They looked on this opportunity as a great adventure and spent a lot of time after their arrival exploring the great outdoors of New Zealand. … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1.
