WHAT’S HAPPENED TO OUR ROSE & FLOWER SHOW??

November 18, 2016 November 2016 Comments Off on WHAT’S HAPPENED TO OUR ROSE & FLOWER SHOW??

With November upon us, the end of the year is approaching, and gardeners from our village and beyond have been wondering what’s happening about the Rose Show.
Unfortunately this famous event has to be CANCELLED for 2016. Our Town Hall is by far the best and most suitable venue; and of course ‘she’ – like a grand old ship – is undergoing a refit right now. The Committee thought long and hard about sorting an alternative: all of which posed varying levels of logistic nightmares. As a result, rather reluctantly, the decision had to be made.
But don’t worry … we’ll be back with the show in 2017. In the meantime, we have some schemes germinating and if, or more likely when, something flowers, there will ‘blooms for you to pick’ [possibly, but not necessarily, metaphorically speaking, of course]. … Continue Reading

Did you know that Waihinga/Martinborough had four abattoirs or slaughterhouses? The first was established before 1890 situated in George Harris’s barn in Weld Street and is now part of Victoria Read’s house. Others included one operate in Waihinga by butchers Lawrence and Thomas Tulloch. A second by Tom Moodie on a section on Princess Street opposite the Martinborough Estate winery. His butcher’s shop was situated where Thunderpants shop now stands. A third was C.S. Skill’s slaughterhouse in Kitchener Street, now part of Palliser Vineyard and the fourth was J.D Rowlands on East Coast Road – now part of Shane Hartnell’s property. Rowland’s butcher shop was in Dublin Street. … Continue Reading

Healthy Thinking Leads to Healthy Emotions & Behaviours

November 18, 2016 November 2016 Comments Off on Healthy Thinking Leads to Healthy Emotions & Behaviours

We all hold internal conversations as we go about our day and sometimes they keep us awake at night.  Often though we are not even aware that we are constantly doing this nor realise the impact these thoughts have on how we feel and how we behave. Psychologists call these inner monologues “self-talk,” and recognise that as part of this process you provide opinions and evaluations on what you’re doing as you’re doing it.
The thing is, if our self-talk is uplifting this is self-validating and can help us to be productive in our actions. However if that little voice in your head is saying negative or critical comments, this can be destructive emotionally and counter productive for us. You can think of self-talk as the inner voice equivalent to sports announcers commenting on a player’s successes or failures on the playing field. … Continue Reading

New Pharmacy
We are a very lucky to be living in our great community. I have just
attended the opening of our wonderful new Unichem Martinborough Pharmacy inthe Medical Centre. For a small town like Martinborough and our surrounding
rural community to have such a great service for patients and visitors says
a lot.
The generosity Of Lions, The Medical Team, Holmes Construction, and
the Ruamahunga  Trust and of course our new Pharmacists are owed a big thank
you. I think of the future of Martinborough and the exciting projects ahead
and know that the children and grandchildren will be well catered for.

Thanks
I would like to thank the people of Martinborough for coming out in such strong numbers to vote in the 2016 Local Election.
Thank you to Gina Smith and Robin Lockie for having faith in me and in nominating my candidacy.  Thank you to everyone who assisted me in my campaign.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me and thank you to all those who took the time to avail yourselves of your democratic right to vote.
I am proud to represent an area that has such a strong voice and I will always do my best for you, the Martinborough Ward and the South Wairarapa District.”
